Our 3 Favorite Performance Enhancement Car Modifications

There are two kinds of car owners. Those who are satisfied with the stock parts and performance of their car and those who are obsessed with improving their vehicle’s performance.

If you are the latter, there’s a good chance that you are familiar with performance enhancements for cars.

Best Car Modifications

Through the wonderful world of aftermarket car modifications, you can choose which aspect of your car’s performance to be upgraded. For supercars, it’s all about a horsepower difference that you can actually feel. Here are some of our favorite enhancements for supercars.

1. Forced Induction

If adding 200+ horsepower to your supercar’s performance sounds like your idea of a good time, it’s hard to go wrong with a force induction enhancement.

One of the most common ways to upgrade your engine’s output is by installing a turbocharger or supercharger.

  • Turbocharger: The idea is to install a turbine which will be spun by the exhaust gasses. The turbine then spins the compressor that blows air at high velocity and pressure into the engine. The compressed air will be blown into the engine’s combustion chambers which results in more torque and power. This is a big buck upgrade that starts from $6,500 to $12,000.
  • Supercharger: This car modification works similar to turbochargers but using a belt-driven compressor. In general, superchargers can give you increased power in the lower RPM range. In comparison, turbo mods are designed to increase power as the RPM increase. Supercharge kits cost around $4,600 to $8,000.

2. Performance Tires

One of the most important car modifications that you can make with your supercar is to install high-performance tires. While this upgrade doesn’t exactly add raw horsepower to your vehicle, its effects are very noticeable.

Without the proper tires, you can forget about adding more horsepower to your car. Your choice of tires will directly affect your car’s performance including its acceleration, braking, corner-handling, and more. Plus, the tires also affects your car’s traction.

When shopping for high-performance tires, make sure that you pay attention to the speed rating. The speed rating indicates the top speed that the tires can handle. A good auto shop can help you choose tires with the appropriate speed rating.

3. Cold Air Intake

This is one of the cheapest and easier car modifications that you can install in your car. More air equals more horsepower.

The stock air filter can only help so much in adding more to the engine’s power. Therefore, it’s highly recommended that you swap out the factory air intake for high-performance cold air intake. The cold air intake forces denser air at a higher velocity to the engine.

As mentioned, cold air intakes are quite affordable and easy to install. You can add 5 to 10 horsepower gain without needing a tune.
