Here we have a brand new Porsche 991 GT3 in a color that has come to define the 991 GT3 and GT3 RS in almost every sense of the word. Lava Orange.
This is a car that arrived at the HG Performance Tuning Studio even before the owner had actually driven it. Yep. The car came straight from the dealership, DDW Auto Sales in Arizona, in an enclosed trailer, and arrived at our door with roughly 10 miles on the clock. They really don’t come any newer than this.
The car was set to get:
- Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust System with Diffuser
- EVOMSit Performance Tune
- BBI Street Cup Suspension
- BBI 991 GT3 Roll Bar
- Alignment and Set Up
The plan was that towards the end of the project, the owner would come out to drive the car. Then, it would come back to our studio for final dialing in. Within a few days of arrival, we had installed the Akrapovic exhaust, flashed the EVOMSit tune, as well as installed the BBI Street Cup suspension and roll bar. An alignment was done as well before the car was to be driven. This was completed just a day or two before Christmas.
The BBI roll bar was installed to complete the project. The car will be shipped to the owner shortly after a full detail and some more photos.
Before we shipped the car back to Texas, the owner of the 991 GT3 flew to San Diego for the holidays and drove the car during the Christmas weekend. He then brought the car back with a couple hundred break-in miles on the odometer. Alain Alba, our master tech managing the project, had the next task of changing the oil – a common practice early in the break-in process of performance cars. The oil change was done with TORCO racing oil as per the recommendation by BBI Autosport. The car will be seeing track time at Circuit of the Americas, so running high quality racing oil is a must.
From factory, the stock Porsche 991 GT3 suspension is a great suspension system. However, there is always room for improvement. When you are looking for unparalleled performance, a motorsport suspension system with parts that are a clear upgrade to the stock components is the way to go.
The Lava Orange Porsche 991 GT3 Project would get BBI’s StreetCup Suspension Package. This is a system with improved springs with a linear rate as well as improved control arms and links. These use spherical bearings like cars in Porsche’s factory racing program. The precision and smoothness of the suspension is beyond any other system.
These are the Porsche 991 GT3 suspension components included in BBI’s system:
- This package includes:
- 2 Coilover Spring (Front)
- 2 Coilover Spring (Rear)
- 2 Coilover Helper Spring (Front)
- 2 Coilover Helper Spring (Rear)
- 2 Monoball Lower Trailing Arm
- 2 Monoball Upper Trailing Arm
- 2 Monoball Upper Wishbone
- 2 Monoball Front Bearing Flange
- 2 Monoball Rear Bearing Flange
- 2 Upper Spring Rest
- 2 Lower Spring Rest
- 2 Adjustable Sway Bar End Link Front
- 2 Adjustable Sway Bar End Link Rear
Suspension packages like this one are preferable over mixing and matching parts from different manufacturers – Especially when it’s a system as highly developed as BBI Autosport’s system. Many hours and careful attention to detail was put into this kit in order to surpass the factory system with noticeable results.
That is the way to improve on a world-class factory system. When your setup demands the very best, upgrading the factory system for further improvements requires such an approach. When budget allows, compromises will simply not be accepted. When this is the case, if there is room for improvement, it must be done!
When we finished installing the BBI StreetCup suspension upgrade package the Lava Orange 991 GT3 Project went on to our in-house precision alignment rack. Doing these alignments in-house and immediately after the suspension installation allows us to test the system right away. Not only that, but the same care that went into installing the StreetCup suspension went into the precision alignment.
This 991 GT3 received some extra horses from the EVOMSit tune and Akrapovic Evolution exhaust. Having an improved suspension to manage it all is the wise thing to do. We always recommend upgraded suspension systems first, even though most people gravitate to power first. This 991 GT3 was done right. Safety, suspension and power. In that order.
